The Monongalia County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event kicks off several collection events for the year making it a perfect time to discuss How to Prepare for the Hard to Recycle and Hard to Dispose of Items Collection Events. To prepare, residents will want to Plan Ahead, Review the List of Accepted Items, Know Event Participation Guidelines, and Keep Informed.
Plan Ahead
The Morgantown Utility Board’s (MUB) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority’s Pesticide and Paper Shred Events are currently one time a year. The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority’s e-cycle events will be in fall 2024 and spring 2025. Residents will want to plan ahead by marking the collection event dates and times on their calendars. Then, residents will want to view the location of the event to be familiar with where the event is held and how to line up to enter. Prior to loading your vehicle, residents need to make sure the items they are bringing will be accepted by reviewing the List of Accepted Items.
Review the List of Accepted Items
It is important for residents to Review the List of Accepted Items before the collection event. The List of Accepted Items is on the website of the organization holding the collection event. It is recommended residents also review the List of Items Not Accepted. If an item is not on the list residents should contact the organization hosting the event. Stay in Vehicle and Leave Pets at Home
Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles. This is for the safety of residents and staff and to avoid long delays. With this summer already hotter than last year, we want to protect residents, our staff and volunteers from being out in the heat too long.
Professional staff will unload your items.
If you need to explain the contents of your items or have questions, please let the staff know when they greet you.
We love pets! However, we ask that residents please leave pets at home. These events have a lot going on and even docile pets can react differently in these types of settings. Unfortunately, pets have bitten and scratched staff before. By leaving your pets at home you'll keep our staff and volunteers safe and allow them to keep the line moving. And, with it being hotter this year, we want to get residents, staff and volunteers out of the heat as soon as possible.
Please read MUB's HHWC Safety Information for MUB's HHWC Collection Day Event.
Staying in your vehicle, and leaving your pets at home, will allow staff and volunteers to work safely and as quickly as possible. We appreciate residents helping to keep our staff and volunteers safe by following these guidelines.
