The Monongalia County SWA Paper Shred and Electronics Recycle Events kick off our first collection events of the year making it a perfect time to discuss How to Prepare for the Hard to Recycle and Hard to Dispose of Items Collection Events. To prepare, residents will want to Plan Ahead, Review the List of Accepted Items, Know Event Participation Guidelines, and Keep Informed.
Plan Ahead
The Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority’s Paper Shred and Electronics Recycling events are now two times a year with events in the spring and fall 2025. The Morgantown Utility Board’s (MUB) Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is one time a year in the fall. Residents will want to plan ahead by marking the collection event dates and times on their calendars. Then, residents will want to view the location of the event to be familiar with where the event is held and how to line up to enter. Prior to loading your vehicle, residents need to make sure the items they are bringing will be accepted by reviewing the List of Accepted Items.
Review the List of Accepted Items
It is important for residents to Review the List of Accepted Items before the collection event. The List of Accepted Items is on the website of the organization holding the collection event. It is recommended residents also review the List of Items Not Accepted. If an item is not on the list residents should contact the organization hosting the event. Below are details for the upcoming spring and fall 2025 collection events:

Stay in Vehicle and Leave Pets at Home

Residents are asked to remain in their vehicles. This is for the safety of residents and staff and to avoid long delays. With this summer already hotter than last year, we want to protect residents, our staff and volunteers from being out in the heat too long.
Professional staff will unload your items.
Monongalia County SWA staff or volunteers will greet you at our Paper Shred and Electronics Recycle Event.

If you need to explain the contents of your items or have questions, please let the staff know when they greet you.
At the Paper Shred Event let the greeter or PACE Employee know if you want your container back.
Donations for PACE Enterprises are accepted. Let your greeter know and they will have a PACE Employee collect it from you.

We love pets! However, we ask that residents please leave pets at home. These events have a lot going on and even docile pets can react differently in these types of settings. Unfortunately, pets have bitten and scratched staff before. By leaving your pets at home you'll keep our staff and volunteers safe and allow them to keep the line moving. And, with it getting hotter every year, we want to get residents, staff and volunteers out of the heat as soon as possible.
Please read MUB's HHWC Safety Information for MUB's HHWC Collection Day Event.
Staying in your vehicle, and leaving your pets at home, will allow staff and volunteers to work safely and as quickly as possible. We appreciate residents helping to keep our staff and volunteers safe by following these guidelines.
